Sweetwater Church

About the Church

At the north end of the Sweetwater Mountain Range in northern Nevada is a small farming and ranch community called Smith Valley and here is where the Sweetwater Christian Fellowship calls home. You will find both locals and visitors gathering every Sunday morning to worship, sing, and praise our Lord Jesus Christ.

Sweetwater Christian Fellowship is a non-denominational cowboy church. It is “come as you are.” Our focus is to worship the Lord with singing; prayers and sound biblical teachings. We proclaim the word of God through words and deed. We believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and in Him and Him only is salvation possible. Nothing fancy just back to the basics of worship, “country style.”

Pastor Tom

Pastor Tom grew up on a small family farm in Kansas. It was there where his mother and father taught him good old Midwest ethics; A place where a hand shake would seal a deal and you were taught that a person was only as good as your word. His first 8 years of schooling was done in a one room school house. It was at this time where his mother would take him to a small country church and he still remembers those hard wooden pews and beautiful stain glass windows.

After graduating from high school he met a fine beautiful maiden and fell in love.

A year later they were married and off to new adventures. After a time in the service he started a career in the plastic industry and eventually ended up owning his own plastic manufacturing plant in Sparks NV. It was at this time he kept feeling a call from the Lord to go into ministry, and after six years of doing part-time ministry pastoring a small church in Coleville California, he was led to sell the business and go full-time into ministry and pastoring a church in one of the major denominations.

After ten years the Lord was saying it’s time to take a sabbatical and started preparing for the next step in his journey. While on sabbatical he went to various churches and different denominations. But it seemed like it was all about rituals, pomp and circumstance; a lot of people knew about the Lord but didn’t really know the Lord. It was then that God put upon his heart to start a church and just get back to basics, and so Sweetwater Christian Fellowship was born on November 29th 2011, and held their first service in March of 2012. The rest is history.

Tom Walburn is married to his wife Linda; they have three children, John, Vicki, and Larry all residing in a 100-mile radius of Smith Valley.

Pastor Message

Christmas Eve Service Sunday December 24th at the barn, 7:00PM

Thanks to Doug and Gretchen Power we are holding our church services in their barn located at 50 Miller Ridge Rd. Wellington, NV. Services begin at 10:00 AM

As of April 6, Sweetwater Christian Fellowship has purchased 5 acres of property located at 105 Crawford lane. This property has highway frontage and is located just west of the Buckboard general store and across from the fire station. With God’s help we will someday have our own facility and not be dependent on other organization’s as to when and where we gather. Another big thanks goes out to Judi Jacobsen, Smith Valley Realty for donating her time and talent in walking us through all the paperwork.

I have also had several people ask; “How do we continue with our monthly tithes and offerings?” The Answer is mail to Sweet Water Christian Fellowship, 60 Garms Circle Smith NV 89430
